Meet Our Staff
Kia ora and Welcome to Tarras School. We’re delighted you have found our page and hope that it provides a little insight into our special place.
It is a privilege to work at Tarras School - we are in a speculator part of the country and we have a very generous and supportive whānau and wider community - we’re fortunate to have such great people around us. We strive to create a calm, safe place to be. Our tamariki are fantastic: hardworking, resilient, motivated and enthusiastic problem solvers who are creative and artistic. They love to lend a helping hand, are incredibly kind and include everyone. They love a challenge and work to meet high expectations, they all strive to be successful, which looks different for everyone. Our staff are passionate, hardworking and have the tamariki at the center of all they do - we’re fortunate to have such a team!
We celebrate kanorau (diversity); accepting and respecting each other’s uniqueness and work to develop a sense of belonging. We create opportunities for all tamariki to learn and excel. We encourage all to show manira (curiosity) by asking questions, being excited and engaged and enjoying shared learning experiences. Our hapori (community) is active and supportive in our place; we are the hub and feel privileged to be so. We encourage whānau to be fully involved in life at Tarras. Whakauka (sustainability) guides us to ensure we are upholding and protecting our mana, kura and whenua.
We’d love to have you visit us - call in and see how special our place is.

Kia ora,
Just an FYI as it's on the School Calendar, we are booked for Polyfest in Queenstown on Wednesday the 23rd of October at 12:40pm. I'll send out more information regarding this closer to the time, but we'd love you to come and watch us. We've been practising 4 waiata (songs) - the kids are working really hard as some of the words are tricky for littlies!
We have our uniforms, but the:
Reminder: Our Learning Celebration is this Wednesday at 2:00pm - the kids have lots to share with you.
Look forward to seeing you all then.
Alice
Mōrena,
You may have seen in the media the new changes coming to the Curriculum for Literacy and Maths - to ensure we are up to date, we will be working with our Ministry advisor on Tuesday the 29th of October. School will be closed for this day.
I've tied it onto Labour weekend incase anyone was wanting a 4 day weekend!
Thanks,
Alice
Kia ora,
It would be great if you could please remind your tamariki about safe behaviours on the bus? We've had an increase in unsafe behaviours whilst traveling on the bus - we have reminded the children about these and would love your support in helping us to keep everyone safe.
Below are the 'Bus Code of Conduct' expectations:
I Will
· Sit down quietly in my seat
· Put my bag on the floor
· Wear a seat belt at all times
· Stay in my seat while the bus is moving
· Wait until the bus stops before moving
· Walk quietly from the bus when I get off
· Keep my hands to myself and not touch other passengers
Thanks for your support.
Alice and Gae
